McLaren driver Lando Norris made a mistake during Q1 by driving into the wall. Norris’ qualification was therefore over and he feels that he has let the team down.
After two weeks of speculation about Lando Norris and a possible early departure from McLaren, it was up to Norris to answer not with words this time, but with deeds. It was something he failed to do because hitting the wall in Q1 damaged the car and was immediately taken out.
“It was a stupid mistake that I honestly shouldn’t be making,” Norris told media in the paddock. “I quickly paid the price for this. This is so frustrating.”
“It’s disappointing because it cost me a chance to get into Q3. I probably would have gotten into Q2 very easily and possibly Q3 as well. I let the team down, this is so frustrating.”
Teammate Oscar Piastri proved that McLaren is a lot more competitive in Jeddah by driving the ninth fastest time. Due to the grid penalty for Leclerc, Lando Norris’s Australian teammate will start eighth.
