After Max Verstappen was killed in Q2 due to a technical problem, Sergio Perez managed to take pole position, but Perez also had a problem afterwards.
Sergio Perez’s first fast lap in Q3 turned out to be fast enough for pole position. That first fast run was therefore crucial for taking pole as Perez admitted after qualifying that he had a problem later on.
“Maximizing that lap was very important because we had a problem on the ultimate fast run. It was important because the track improved,” said Perez after qualifying. “It’s a shame for Max because he was very strong all race weekend.”
Perez hopes he will not have any technical problems tomorrow and also warns Red Bull that the reliability of the RB19 needs to be improved.
“Hopefully both cars can fight for victory tomorrow but you never know with these cars, the reliability can suddenly let you down at any time,” said Perez.
