Formula 1 has informed the teams and drivers that from now on no bicycles, scooters or other electric or non-electric means of transport may be used during the track walk.
A so-called ‘track walk’ always takes place on Thursdays prior to the further course of the race weekend. The word says it all, the circuit is walked, this to explore the circuit and to better assess any changes to the circuit.
In recent years, however, more and more so-called ‘aids’ have been used. For example, many riders explored the circuit by bicycle or with an electric scooter. However, Formula 1 is now getting rid of that.
In Bahrain, the teams and drivers received a letter stating that they must do the famous ‘track walk’ as it should be, namely on foot. A ban on bicycles and scooters, for example, will be enforced. For the time being it is not clear what punishment will be imposed in the event of an infringement.
Especially on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the track walk now promises to last much longer. At over 7km, Spa-Francorchamps is the longest circuit on the F1 calendar and with Eau-Rouge, Raidillon and the straight uphill section to Les Combes, drivers and team members will have a long walk.
