According to Max Verstappen, teammate Sergio Perez thinks about what ‘success’ is in the same way as he does. In addition, Verstappen also says that his relationship with Perez has changed considerably in recent years.
“I’ve gotten to know Checo very well over the past few years,” Verstappen told the Daily Mail. “He drove great when I won my first world title in Abu Dhabi. He was great that day.”
“We were rivals before, especially when I started racing at Toro Rosso, then I started to get to know him a little more on a personal level. What I love is that he is a family man who really cares about his friends.”
According to Verstappen, he and Perez also look at success and what exactly that means in a similar way.
“F1 is very important and you want to be very successful in it but it’s not the end of the world if you’re not successful,” said Verstappen.
“I think the same way. We’ve won races, he’s the most successful Mexican ever in Formula 1, but it doesn’t mean anything because when you say goodbye to F1, your life goes on.”
Still curious if Perez is actually satisfied with his four F1 victories so far, three of them at Red Bull, and a third place in the championship as the best result of the season.
