In Patagonia, the reigning vice world champion was the best in both series. In the final standings he beat the Italian Andrea Adamo (KTM/40 points) and the Frenchman Thibault Benistant (Yamaha) with 50 points. Liam Everts (KTM) finished ninth with 24 points, sixteen-year-old Lucas Coenen (Husqvarna) finished fourteenth with twelve points. His twin brother Sacha was not there in Argentina due to a shoulder injury.
After the departure of Tom Vialle, Geerts is aiming for the world title in his last year before his move to the premier class. There are already three vice world titles on his palmares and before that he was also third in the championship.
In the MXGP class, Spaniard Jorge Prado (GASGAS) won the first moto earlier on Sunday. In the absence of the injured world champion Tim Gajser, Prado beat Frenchman Romain Febvre (Kawasaki) and his compatriot Maxime Renaux (Yamaha) in Patagonia. Brent Van doninck (Honda), the only Belgian in the MXGP, the premier class in motocross, after Jeremy Van Horebeek dropped out, immediately settled into the top ten with eighth place. The second series will be driven on Sunday evening.
