The day you knew would come: after the electric Volvo XC40 got a longer range and rear-wheel drive, it’s now the turn of the Polestar 2. After all, both electric cars are on the same platform.

The facelift that Polestar is carrying out for the Polestar 2 mainly leads to technical improvements. The single-motor Polestar 2 now has rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive. This recently also happened with the electric Volvo XC40. The power of the new electric motor increases from 231 hp to 272 hp (Standard range). The maximum torque also increases, from 330 to 490 Nm. The Polestar 2 Long range with single engine now has 299 hp.

Because the Polestar 2 now has rear-wheel drive, it has become more playful and agile, Polestar promises. At the same time, the electric car is more mature and comfortable. Volvo says something similar about the adjustments to the electric Volvo XC40 and the Volvo C40.

Polestar 2 dual motor also more power

The Polestar 2 with dual motor has also been given extra muscles. The new electric motor on the rear axle is the primary engine. The also new one on the front axle serves as support. For extra efficiency, the front motor can be switched off. The system power has increased from 408 hp to 421 hp. The maximum torque is now 740 Nm (was 660 Nm).

If you want to drive from a standstill to 100 km/h with your new Polestar 2 Long Range dual motor, this takes 4.5 seconds. The Long range single motor takes 6.2 seconds to do this (Standard range: 6.4 seconds).

Performance Pack

If you tick the Performance Pack on the option list of the Polestar 2 Longe range dual motor, you get 476 hp. You then eat 0.3 seconds from the sprint to 100 km / h. A number of versions can be retrofitted with special performance software updates, so that you get even more power. Of course at extra cost.

Polestar 2 range increased

The Polestar 2 has a greater range than before. This is mainly due to the new lithium-ion batteries. The battery of the Standard range of the Polestar 2 still has a capacity of 69 kWh, but the Long range now offers 82 kWh. All versions received an increased range:

  • Polestar 2 Standard range single motor: range 518 km, an increase of 40 km (WLTP)
  • Polestar 2 Long range single motor: range 635 km, an increase of 84 km (WLTP)
  • Polestar 2 Long range dual motor range: 592 km, an increase of 105 km (WLTP)

Faster charging

Thanks to the renewed battery packs, the charging times of the Polestar have been significantly reduced. The battery of the Polestar 2 Long range can be charged at a rate of up to 205 kW (was 155 kW). The Polestar 2 with the Standard range can now charge up to 135 kW.

Polestar 2 from 51,200 euros

Polestar has immediately announced the prices of the new Polestar 2. They start at 51,200 euros for the Standard range single engine. Anyone who pays 4000 euros more gets the Polestar 2 Longe range. The AWD versions of the Polestar 2 (always Long range) start at 59,900 euros. For 6500 euros you have the Performance Pack including launch control for maximum acceleration.

Smooth nose

Has Polestar not changed the appearance of the Polestar 2 at all? Well, yes. The new Polestar 2 has more or less the same smooth nose as the larger Polestar 3. Polestar calls it ‘SmartZone’ and offers space for a camera and a radar for the various driver assistance systems.
