In our comparison test of popular compact SUV models, you quickly overlook the literally and figuratively gray Skoda Kamiq. Don’t, because no matter how good this compact SUV looks, it will make mincemeat of its direct competitors in the following three test sections.
1 Comfort
The Skoda Kamiq has more to offer in terms of space and comfort than its competitors in this comparison test, the Kia XCeed, the Mazda CX-30, the Renault Captur and the Volkswagen T-Roc. In no other compact SUV, the occupants have as much leg and headroom as in the Skoda Kamiq. However, when fully occupied, the trunk is on the tight side: 400 liters of luggage can be stored in it. But if you lay the back seat flat, the Skoda Kamiq will swallow 1395 liters. Only the Mazda CX-30 comes a little further with 1406 liters. Thanks to the pleasantly smooth suspension, long journeys are very relaxed.

2 Motor
The Skoda Kamiq from this driving test is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine with turbo. With 150 hp, the Skoda Kamiq is adequately motorized. Although it is the same powertrain (with seven-speed DSG transmission) as in the Volkswagen T-Roc, the Skoda Kamiq responds more eagerly to the accelerator at higher speeds. This is partly due to the low weight of the Skoda Kamiq: at 1278 kilograms, it is the lightest car in this test. And that is beneficial for consumption. With a test average of 1 to 15.9, the Skoda Kamiq is the most economical. The other compact SUV models do not reach 1 in 15, although the Volkswagen T-Roc makes very little difference (1 in 14.9).
3 Cost
The price of the test car is 37,180 euros. Actually, only the Mazda CX-30 is really cheaper (price test car: 36,490 euros) because the difference with the Renault Captur is only 80 euros (price test car: 37,100 euros). You also pay the lowest insurance premium and road tax for the Skoda Kamiq. The low consumption reduces fuel costs. Skoda also provides a four-year manufacturer’s warranty with unlimited roadside assistance. The fact that Kia gives more warranty (seven years / 150,000 km) does not prevent the Skoda Kamiq from winning on this test part as well.
Conclusion
If you are looking for the most spacious, most comfortable and most affordable compact SUV of the moment, you simply cannot ignore the Skoda Kamiq, no matter how colorless it may look.
