Of course Max Verstappen was overjoyed after taking the victory in Hungary. Instead of limiting the damage, Verstappen increased his lead in the championship.
“I didn’t think this morning,” said Verstappen after the race, as can be read on his official website. “I had hoped I could get close to the podium, but the conditions were very tricky. But we had a really good strategy and reacted well. We always made our pit stops at the right time and we also managed the outlaps well.”
“And even with a 360-degree spin, we won the race. I was competing with a lot of drivers, so today was a lot of fun. It was an insane race and I’m glad we won.”
Max Verstappen had the following to say about that strange 360-degree spin.
“I had a problem with the clutch after five laps, which kept slipping. As a result, we had to adjust the gears so that it always shifted very hard. So that wasn’t ideal to drive with. Luckily I was able to make a 360 and only lost one spot. I was warming up the rear tires.”
And so Verstappen enters the summer break with no less than 80 points ahead, something that Verstappen never expected either.
“We can’t complain,” said Verstappen. “But I am someone who immediately goes to see what we can do better. And there are many things we can do better. So we’re going to think about that over the holidays. Hopefully we can make that happen when we get back.”
