Volvo C40 Recharge

Volvo keeps it simple: the delivery of the C40 Recharge starts with the Intro Edition of 57,950 euros, where everything is already on and on. We set the bar high for the other brands, by taking this luxury version as an example. We only settle for adaptive cruise control, a panoramic roof, a high-quality audio system and headlights so bright and sophisticated they can illuminate an operating table. Since the Volvo C40 Recharge and its competitors have tow weights from 1200 to 1800 kilos, it is also useful to know what a towbar costs. If you look at the total prices, you will soon come to the conclusion that the introduction version of the C40 is reasonably priced.

Volvo C40 Recharge (78 kWh, 2 engines, 408 hp)

  • Intro Edition – 57.950 euro
  • Adaptive cruise control – standard
  • Panoramic roof – standard
  • High Quality Audio System – Standard
  • Advanced Headlights – Standard
  • Trailer hitch (1800 kilos) – 1130 euros

Total: 59,080 euros

More expensive – Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 is the predecessor of the Volvo C40. It also had a fully equipped introductory version at its launch in 2019. Nowadays there are three versions to choose from and you dress the car with packages. More precisely, the Pilot package (1) and the Plus package (2). Together they cost 8 grand and that drives up the price. So why not a C40 Recharge?

Polestar 2 (78 kWh, 2 engines, 408 hp)

  • Long range Dual motor – 53.900 euro
  • Adaptive cruise control – 3500 euros (1)
  • Panorama roof – 4500 euros (2)
  • High-quality audio system – standard in Plus package (2)
  • Advanced Headlamps – Standard in Pilot Package (1)
  • Towbar (1500 kilos) – 1100 euros

Total: 63,000 euros

More expensive – Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron

The Volvo C40 has an electric powertrain of 408 hp and that of the Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron only goes up to 299 hp. A small blunder for a brand with such a sporting history. The price is typical Audi: high. On top of the solid base price are a few hefty option prices and then we are suddenly talking about a car worth 70 grand.

Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron (77 kWh, 2 engines, 299 hp)

  • Q4 50 Advanced Edition – 66.725 euro
  • Adaptive cruise control – 1194 euros
  • Panorama roof – not available
  • High-quality audio system – 845 euros
  • Advanced Headlights – Standard
  • Trailer hitch (1200 kilo) – 1769 euros

Total: 70,533 euros

More expensive – Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y meets the description of an electric SUV with coupé traits and it is in our top 10 of most important new models. The base price of 64,000 euros is on the high side, but then you also get a fully equipped car. Tesla does not mention how much a towbar costs, but it was 1050 euros for a long time, so we count with that.

Tesla Model Y (75 kWh, 2 engines, 351 hp)

  • Long Range – 64.000 euro
  • Adaptive cruise control – standard
  • Panoramic roof – standard
  • High Quality Audio System – Standard
  • Advanced Headlights – Standard
  • Trailer hitch (1600 kilos) – 1050 euros

Total: 65,050 euros
