“Sir Frank was one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in this sport,” Hamilton wrote on social media with some photos of his compatriot. “He always had time for me and was always without judgment. I am honored to call him a friend,” said the seven-time world champion, who, among other things, shared a photo with Williams from his early days in Formula 1, when Hamilton was still driving for McLaren. “What he has achieved in this sport is really something special. I know that he has remained a racer and a fighter at heart until his last days. I have the utmost respect for this man. His legacy will live on forever. You will be missed, Frank, but I’ll see you on ‘the other side’.”

Almost all Formula 1 teams reacted with reports to the news that Williams has passed away. A lot of drivers also made themselves heard. “Today we said goodbye to the man who shaped our team,” said George Russell, the 23-year-old Briton who has been driving for Williams since 2019. “Sir Frank was more than a boss, he was a mentor and friend to everyone who joined the Williams team.”

Team boss Christian Horner responded on behalf of Red Bull, the racing stable of Max Verstappen. “Very sad to hear the news about Sir Frank Williams. A true gentleman and a true racer. On behalf of Red Bull Racing, I thank him for everything he has given to Formula 1.”

Verstappen, the leader in the World Cup, posted a photo of a smiling Williams with the text ‘RIP Sir Frank’ on an Instagram story.
