As teammates, they were once each other’s biggest competitors at Mercedes, but Nico Rosberg also has recognition for what Lewis Hamilton can achieve in Formula 1. According to Rosberg, Hamilton is probably the best driver ever in terms of ‘talent’.
Nico Rosberg was Lewis Hamilton’s teammate for several years and so far also the last driver to beat Lewis Hamilton in the battle for the F1 world title. Even now, Rosberg is looking with great pleasure at the new battle that Hamilton is fighting this time with Max Verstappen, one in which he must bring out all his talent.
“Lewis is simply an incredible natural, talent wise he is probably the best ever,” Nico Rosberg told ‘Sky’. “And he really builds on that, his instinct is really phenomenal.”
“It’s a whole different story when it comes to dedication. He hates to test. Michael Schumacher would test every day, even though he is a seven-time F1 champion, but he knows that even then you can learn all kinds of little things from that. It’s just dedication, passion.”
“Very clever”
Something Lewis Hamilton is also extremely adept at, according to Nico Rosberg: clearing his mistakes.
“What Hamilton does very well is all the political games, especially with the media,” said Rosberg, who believes that in the event of a crash or incident, Hamilton somehow ensures that the other driver is considered to be the culprit.
“He’s all very clever about that. Even on the track, when he hits the gray zone, somehow it’s never his fault. It’s always his opponent’s fault.”
With six races to go, Hamilton will have to use all his talent to win the title fight with Max Verstappen. If that is the case, Hamilton will conquer his eighth world title in Formula 1, a new record. Nico Rosberg himself would think back with even more pride to his title battle with Hamilton in 2016.
