During the race weekend in Turkey, Max Verstappen again took the lead in the F1 championship. During the United States GP at the Circuit of The Americas, title rival Lewis Hamilton usually performs very well, but Verstappen also expects to come out strong.
“It’s great to be back in America”, says an enthusiastic Max Verstappen in his preview of the upcoming race weekend. “We’ve always been competitive in the US and have had good results, so now it’s about turning that into a win.”
Verstappen expects a very exciting battle with Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes for the umpteenth time this season.
“We are now going to every track knowing that at least now we can fight for a podium, but also for a win and that is different from previous years. We are focused to do our best and always try to win the race and Austin will be no different. It’s going to be another exciting battle this weekend and I’m looking forward to that.”
According to some, Mercedes will be the favorite next race weekend, but Verstappen does not really believe in that.
“I don’t really believe in momentum swings,” said Verstappen. “We always have to get every aspect of the weekend right to optimize our performance, prepare as best we can and if we do that, we can’t give more as a team. We have a very competitive car, but you have to compare it to Mercedes and that’s always the big question mark at every race this season.”
“Hopefully we can battle with them this weekend and maintain the championship lead. Every week there are new challenges to overcome and this competition will be no different. A lot of things can happen in a race, so we will focus on ourselves and no one else.”
