What is striking about the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years?
Have you seen those gold colored elements? Porsche screwed it onto the car itself. The front bumper has a gold trim, the heart of the special 20-inch wheels is gold and the engine breathes through gold-coloured air catchers in the sides. Why? Because the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years – as a tribute to 25 years of Boxster – harks back to the Boxster Study shown at the 1993 Detroit and Geneva motor shows. At the time, that concept car already showed very clearly where the final production version of the Boxster in 1996 would go. The Boxster Study also had those gold (or is it copper?) details. Hence.
The interior of the anniversary Boxster is covered with red leather and decorated with aluminum frames (so no gray lacquered plastic!). The same applies today: this is what the inside of the Boxster Study looked like at the time. The red leather definitely heightens the revelry; as far as we’re concerned, Porsche couldn’t have picked a better color!
Also on board you are constantly reminded that this is not just any 718 Boxster. Even in the digital display on the right of the instrument panel, a special ‘Boxster 25’ welcome message has been programmed. The passenger looks out at a type plate in which the production number of the car is engraved. Because Porsche does not build more than 1250 Boxster 25s. A series that can be sold out very quickly…

What’s good about the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years?
The Boxster 25 Years is based on the Boxster GTS 4.0 introduced in 2020. And let that just be the finest Boxster of the moment. The 25 Years has exactly the same 400 hp four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine – without turbos! A masterly engine, which still builds up its power in the old-fashioned way and only reaches its highest power at the end of the rev range. If you expect that the build-up will flatten out a bit, the engine just throws a portion of power on top.
The Porsche is accurate to 100 in 4.0 seconds, and its top speed is 288 km/h. And the sounds he makes touch you deep in your soul. It goes in all directions: in the background sometimes a mechanical rattle can be heard, while at the same time a whirlwind seems to be raging through the intake manifold. Then the engine kicks in and it sounds like Axl Rose’s lashes in Sweet Child o’ Mine, staged by a circular saw and a jackhammer, after a night out in the karaoke bar.
Of course, the Boxster 25 Years drives exactly the same as the Boxster GTS 4.0. And trust me: it does it very well! In comfort mode you can drive the car very calmly. Then the PDK transmission (an option with which our test car was equipped) switches to the next gear as soon as possible and the adaptive chassis is even of the deinige type. But you can also rage like a hooligan after a disallowed goal from his favorite club. Put the rotary switch on the steering wheel in Sport Plus, slide the PDK lever in the ‘manual’ and everything is on point. As in: as sharp as a sharpened filleting knife. What a party!
What could be better about the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years?
Is the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years distinctive enough compared to the standard Boxster GTS 4.0? You pay 11,000 euros extra, and you will only find that at first sight in the outward appearance. Are the gold colored elements worth that much money to you? And is an edition of 1250 pieces ‘limited’ enough? From a rational point of view, doubts arise. But you don’t buy a Porsche with common sense. Knowing that the special editions of the 911, for example, are very popular with Porsche enthusiasts and collectors, this anniversary version of the 718 Boxster could also be sold out very quickly. So don’t wait too long!
When will the 718 Boxster 25 Years come and what will it cost?
It is already there and costs 140,200 euros. Don’t take a long time to count your money now, because before you know it, all 1250 copies have been sold! Perhaps it is also good to tell you that you are not stuck with the GT silver paint and the red interior with red soft top, as the car is executed in the photos. The 718 Boxster 25 Years can also be ordered in Carrera white and jet black, whether or not in combination with a black interior and/or black soft top. The gold-coloured elements will keep you hooked.
What do I think of the Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years?
You certainly wouldn’t hear me complaining if the key to a Porsche 718 Boxster 25 Years with the message “Hold it” was pressed into my hands. But would I be less happy if it was ‘just’ a Boxster GTS 4.0? Absolutely not! Thanks to the six-cylinder boxer engine right behind your back, this is probably the most desirable Boxster of the past 25 years. Do those gold or copper-colored elements and the unique serial number add much to that? Perhaps only for the true Porsche adept, who wants to complete his car collection with the Boxster 25 Years. This anniversary version drives no differently than a standard Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0. Although it lacks some desirable options, it does cost 11,000 euros less. That’s fine! If I would opt for a Boxster-with-more, I would save up for the only 4000 euros more expensive, but even faster and even sportier Porsche Boxster Spyder.
