Toyota completed a one-two at the 8 Hours of Portimao in Portugal on Sunday, while Stoffel Vandoorne (Oreca-Gibson Jota) finished second in the LMP2.
The Portimao 8 Hours was the second race of the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), which was held on what should have been the Le Mans 24 Hours weekend (the event was postponed to August and will be attended by 50,000 people), more than a month after the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
As expected, the battle for victory was between the two Toyotas and the Alpine Hypercar. At the end of the race, the GR010 Hybrid of José Maria Lopez/Kamui Kobayashi/Mike Conway (Arg/Jap/GB) won by one second over the sister car of Sébastien Buemi/Kazuki Nakajima/Brendon Hartley (Zwi/Jap /NZ). The Alpine of André Negrão/Nicolas Lapierre/Mathieu Vaxivière (Bra/Fra/Fra) finished third at 1:08.
In the LMP2 too, it was even until the end between the two Oreca-Gibson cars of the Jota team. In the end, it was the car of Roberto Gonzalez/Antonio Felix Da Costa/Anthony Davidson (Mex/Por/GB) that narrowly won ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne/Tom Blomqvist/Sean Gelael (Bel/GB/Idn), taking the lead with five more minutes to go.
In the LMP2 Championship, Vandoorne and his teammates are in third place with 13 points ahead of the leaders, Gonzalez/Da Costa/Davidson. The third round will take place in Italy, with the 6 Hours of Monza on July 18.
