Elon Musk’s ways are impenetrable. One day cryptocurrencies are completely your thing and the next day it doesn’t like them anymore. But also about the stock market value of his own company and the corona lockdown, His Muskigty’s opinions are flying in all directions. The most recent example of the Tesla boss’s fickleness concerns the absolute top version of the Model S Plaid +. This would get 1100 hp and shoot from standstill to 100 km / h in less than two seconds.
‘Tesla Model S Plaid good enough’
The Tesla Model S Plaid+ has a range of 837 kilometers and will be available in 2022. A price had even been announced: 149,990 euros had to cost the super-Tesla. But on Twitter, Musk is now letting us know that the Plaid+ has already been played out before it even started: “Plaid+ is canceled. No need, as Plaid is just so good.” In other words: Musk thinks the regular Plaid is perfectly fine. To add that the regular Plaid is “the only car ever built that goes from 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds.” Unfortunately 60 mph is ‘only’ 97 km/h, and the typical European hundred sprint is just not reached within two seconds.
Model S Plaid also makes mincemeat of Porsche Taycan
According to previously reported performance figures, the Tesla Model S Plaid (1020 hp, range 628 km) needs 2.1 seconds to shoot from 0 to 100 km/h. A Porsche Taycan Turbo S (761 hp, from 191,700 euros) takes 2.8 seconds. In normal life, that 0.7 seconds is of course nothing at all. But in a sprint duel, it means that the Model S Plaid makes mincemeat of the fastest Taycan. Not to mention supercars with an ‘old-fashioned’ combustion engine. Look, then, we understand that Musk thinks the Tesla Model S Plaid + is a bit redundant. In addition, the regular Plaid is a lot cheaper than the Plaid +: 119,990 euros. The Tesla Model S Plaid will be available from the beginning of 2022. That is to say: if Elon Musk does not decide something else before that time … On the first 40,000 euros you will pay 16 percent addition from 2022, on the rest just 22 percent.
