Jenson Button has never made it a secret that he is a fan of Lewis Hamilton but he thinks Max Verstappen is the most talented rider on the current grid
Last weekend, Max Verstappen celebrated his 100th race at Red Bull during the GP of Spain and that precisely on the circuit where he celebrated his first victory in Formula 1 in 2016.
In the meantime, the counter has reached ten victories, but he has never had material with which he could threaten Lewis Hamilton for the world title.
Maybe it will hit this year because Verstappen and Red Bull have already shown that they are competitive and that it will not be a health walk for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton in 2021.
According to Jenson Button, both ruffs have their own qualities, but when it comes to pure talent, the 2009 world champion chooses Verstappen.
“Max is immensely talented,” said Button. “If you look at the sheer talent, Max Verstappen is probably the most talented rider of all.”
“I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but hey, this is just my opinion.”
Button knows what he’s talking about as he was Lewis Hamilton’s teammate at McLaren for three seasons and describes him as the most complete driver of the two, thanks to his experience.
“The most complete rider, if you count the experience and the way he races, is Lewis Hamilton,” he added. “But in terms of pure talent, I really end up with Max.”
For now, Lewis Hamilton has the upper hand in the championship with a 14-point lead over Max Verstappen. The seven-time world champion managed to pull the sheet this season in three of the four races, while Max Verstappen took the highest step in Imola.
