Despite the corona pandemic, the public will be admitted to the Rally of Portugal, the fourth WRC round of the season, which will be held in the north of Portugal from 19 to 23 May, AFP news agency learned from the organizers on Thursday.
However, it concerns a limited number of fans who are allowed to sit on the side of the track and must respect the rules regarding social distancing. With the admission, the organization hopes to avoid scenes like last month in the Rally of Croatia. It had to take place behind closed doors, but quite a few fans randomly took place at the edge of the road to watch the special stages, which was not entirely corona-proof.
Portugal had to deal with a strong corona wave at the beginning of this year, which forced the country into lockdown for two months. Easing started in mid-March and the figures have continued to move in the right direction ever since. Over the past fourteen days, an average of 60 infections per 100,000 inhabitants has been recorded. With that incidence, they are among the best students in the class in Europe.
