Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time during the second practice session at the Portimao circuit. The seven-time F1 champion was only a tenth faster than Verstappen, which promises for the rest of the race weekend.
The start of the second practice session for the GP of Portugal was delayed by a few minutes after there was a problem with a water drainage manhole cover. In the end, however, the session could start with some delay and the manhole cover in question did not cause additional problems.
Once the light turned green we immediately got a lot of cars on the track, the coffee break had clearly lasted long enough for most drivers.
During the morning session, Max Verstappen was only a handful of thousandths slower than Valtteri Bottas who set the fastest time in the Mercedes. The Dutchman clearly wanted to change that during the second practice session. However, they did not let themselves be done at Mercedes …
Ultimately, it was Lewis Hamilton who set the fastest time, ahead of Max Verstappen and teammate Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton was a tenth faster than Verstappen, but his best time was slower than Valtteri Bottas’ fastest time this morning.
