Why are we so delighted with the BMW 2 Series Coupé’s radiator grille? Because the ‘kidneys’ of the BMW 4-Series Coupé and the BMW M4 – they are rather ‘lungs’ – are two sizes too big in our opinion. The new BMW front can also be found on the electric BMW i4 and iX, as well as on the yet to be introduced 4-series Gran Coupé.
BMW 2 Series Coupé is getting longer and wider
Anyway, the BMW 2-Series Coupé is spared the hare teeth. It gets a modest nose, with wide, horizontal ‘kidneys’ and pinched lamps (but is that nice?). On the face – the camouflage makes it difficult to see – the 2-Series Coupé seems longer and wider than the current model, which looks a bit thin in non-M trim. On the accompanying spy photos we clearly see the flared shoulders and wheel arches of the two-door.
No front-wheel, but rear-wheel drive
Much information about the 2-series Coupé has not yet been released by BMW. Actually, all we know is that it’s on the rear-wheel drive 3-Series and 4-Series platform (CLAR, BMW calls it). That is a big difference with the BMW 2-series Gran Coupé, which uses the UKL2 platform and thus has front-wheel drive.
There will also be a fast BMW M2 Coupé
It is not known whether there will be a convertible version of the BMW 2-series Coupé. A fast BMW M2 variant is in the pipeline. It is probably powered by the 3.0-liter twinturbo six-cylinder engine from the BMW X3 M and X4 M and gets around 420 hp. In the regular 2-series Coupé, BMW scoops a 2.0-liter turbo engine or a six-in-line.
