Nissan calls itself the inventor of the compact crossover segment. Well that may go a bit far, but indeed… in 2007 the Nissan Qashqai (we thought that name was strange then!) Was the first really popular suv-like in its class. It was the first car designed by Nissan’s European design center in London.

Latest generation Nissan Qashqai has grown bigger
The latest generation also comes from the European drawing board, both technically and in terms of design. Its lines remind us of the previous Nissan Qashqai, but sharper. The third generation is slightly longer (plus 3.5 inches), wider (plus 3.2 inches) and higher (plus 2.5 inches) than its predecessor, with a 2.0 inch increased wheelbase. It stands on hefty (optional) 20-inch alloy wheels.
On the nose, of course, that typical Nissan grille (V-Motion calls the company), with a set of pinched LED Matrix headlights and boomerang-shaped daytime running lights on both sides. The Qashqai can be ordered in one of eleven body colors. There are five two-tone combinations, with the roof in a different color.

The interior of the Qashqai has been extensively digitized
The interior is (of course) extensively digitized. The driver looks out over a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (a head-up display is also available) and a 9-inch touchscreen on the center console for operation of the infotainment system. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offers WiFi for up to seven devices and is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
With the latter two you can, for example, look up a navigation destination at home and easily pass it on to the car. Via the NissanConnect phone app, it is possible to operate various vehicle functions, such as the horn, lights and door locking. You can also find your Qashqai if you don’t remember where it is parked.
“The price of the new Qashqai is 33,540 euros.”
According to Nissan, the head and legroom in the Qashqai’s interior has been improved compared to the previous generation. For better access to the second row of seats, the rear doors can be opened to an angle of up to 85 degrees. Furthermore, the boot floor of the luggage compartment has been slightly lowered (so you don’t have to lift as high) and the trunk itself has grown by 70 liters (previously 430 – 1598 liters).

Nissan Qashqai E-Power is EV met range extender
The brand new Nissan Qashqai is available in four engine variants. There is a 1.3-liter petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and the Nissan E-Power. The former offers 140 hp and 240 Nm of torque (manual gearbox, front-wheel drive) or 158 hp and 260 Nm (manual gearbox, front-wheel drive). The version with automatic transmission is also available as a four-wheel drive and has 158 hp and 270 Nm.
With the third generation Nissan Qashqai, the E-Power powertrain comes to Europe for the first time. It consists of a 158 hp petrol engine and a 190 hp electric motor. The Qashqai E-Power is an electric car, because only the electric motor drives the wheels. The petrol engine functions as a generator to generate electricity. One pedal driving as in the electric Nissan Leaf is possible. The Qashqai with e-Power will not be on the market until 2022.
