German Nico Hülkenberg has signed a contract until the end of the season as a reserve and test driver at Aston Martin, the F1 team announced on Thursday.
With the 33-year-old Hülkenberg, newcomer Aston Martin brings in a lot of experience. The German has completed 176 F1 races at Williams, Sauber and Renault, and between 2012 and 2016 also at Force India and Racing Point, the predecessors of today’s Aston Martin Racing.
Last season, he had to fill in twice at Racing Point when Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll were infected with the corona virus. This season he is the backup of the same Stroll and newcomer Sebastian Vettel, four-time world champion.
