Motard Walter Roelants has raised no less than 48,683 euros for the To Walk Again rehabilitation center with his participation in the Dakar Rally this year. The 60-year-old Roelants was the oldest Belgian who could complete the legendary rally on his motorcycle.

Roelants’ son Joël was paralyzed from the chest six years ago as a motocross rider. During his rehabilitation he was helped enormously by To Walk Again, founded by Marc Herremans at the time. Walter therefore wanted to give something back. Everything that the 60-year-old motorcyclist raised in sponsorship money for Dakar, he donated to charity. On Friday he handed over a check for 48,683 euros.

According to Marc Herremans, the financial support that Walter collected during his Dakar is very welcome. “Corona is drying up sponsorship of companies and events. The Warmest Week, which gives us a lot of support, was also canceled. This has consequences: we want to continue to support patients, but it is gradually becoming a difficult story. The last thing we want is that we will soon have to disappoint patients who want to work with the walking robot. ”
