Near Ford’s headquarters in Cologne, our spy photographer spotted this heavily camouflaged Ford Fiesta. Judging from the roof rails, it must be the cleaned up version, the Fiesta Active. If we zoom in on the front screen, we see that it is indeed the cleaned up version of the Fiesta.
The Cologne sticker department has done its best on the car, nevertheless we see that especially the front of the Fiesta is being tackled a lot. We see that in the first place in the headlights, which seem to get less sharp lines. In addition, the grille, the front bumper and the bonnet are changed. At the back we only see slightly differently arranged light units.
Current Fiesta still has to last five years
Major technical changes to the renewed Fiesta are not obvious. In 2019, Ford fitted the Fiesta with mild hybrid technology, and further electrification is likely to be too far-reaching and expensive on the current platform. It therefore looks like the facelifted Fiesta will have to last until at least 2026. After all, Ford has indicated that from that year it only wants to offer fully electric cars and plug-in hybrids in Europe. Four years later, the European Ford range will even be fully electric.
Chances are that the Ford Fiesta will only get a fully electric successor. Because developing a plug-in hybrid for the intervening four years seems like a precious history to us.
