Ferrari wants to win again in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Italian manufacturer announced this on Wednesday. It has been since 1965 that the Steigerende Paardje won another overall victory in the French endurance classic

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is on the rise again. The reason for the boom is not far-fetched: the new Hypercar class allows manufacturers to compete for one of the most important trophies on the motorsport planet for a fraction of the recent Le Mans budgets. Porsche, Audi, Toyota, Acura and Peugeot are just a few brands that are building a new car, or even have one on the road. Ferrari also wants to start with a Hypercar in Le Mans in 2023.

The Italian manufacturer already has a rich history of racing in the Sarthe, fought heroic battles especially in the 1960s. The 1966 duel with Ford was recently the subject of a Hollywood blockbuster with Matt Damon and Christian Bale.

Ferrari managed to achieve a total of nine overall victories in Le Mans. The last one for now came in 1965, when the entire podium was occupied by cars from Maranello. The Belgians Willy Mairesse and Jean ‘Beurlys’ Blaton then finished third. Afterwards, Ferrari left the top class at Le Mans and concentrated on achieving victories in one of the lower categories. With the Hypercar it once again aims its arrows at the top jay.
