Nice isn’t it, such a classic Volkswagen T1. If you want one, you pay blue. At auctions, beautiful copies quickly go towards 50,000 euros, or even much more. So most of us have to rely on this T1 ‘Bulli’ from Playmobil, which is available in the Volkswagen webshop for 49.95.
Volkswagen T1 camper full of food and camping equipment
As mentioned, this Volkswagen T1 from Playmobil is a shrunken version of a camper from the classic collection of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (nicknamed Henrik the Red). It is packed with food and camping equipment, has cupboards and a table, and a bench that can be folded up. Behind the rear engine cover, the air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine is clearly recognizable.
Volkswagen Transporter invented by Ben Pon
There is a Dutch touch to the Volkswagen T1. It was Volkswagen importer Ben Pon who drew up the concept for the Transporter in the late 1940s and showed it to Volkswagen. The first generation was built from 1950 to 1967 and became the symbol of the hippie culture. Volkswagen is now ready for the sixth generation of the Transporter (since 2015).
